Government misused funds

Government have misused over $2million in a road tender deal when it purchased expensive road graders last year, parliament heard yesterday.

The Zinara came under fire from the parliamentary portfolio committee on public accounts after they bought 80 earth moving equipment from an expensive Chinese supplier.

According to evidence led before the committee chaired by MDC-T MP Paurina Mpariwa, secretary the ministry of Transport, Munesu Munodawafa said the administrator bought graders for $200 000 each while there was a company supplying the same product for $130 000.

Although he could not state the reason as to why they opted to spent such an amount when they could have used less.
