The Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces President Robert Mugabe has promoted seven officers in the Zimbabwe National Army from the rank of major to lieutenant colonel.
Conferring the ranks to the lieutenant colonels, ZNA Brigadier General Administrative Staff, Brigadier General Shailet Moyo said the officers earned their promotions through hard work and dedication to duty.
"The promotion is a vote of confidence in the work of these individuals," said Brigadier General Moyo.
Lieutenant Colonel Spiwe Tabitha Nyangani, the only female candidate to be promoted, said she is greatly honoured to have made it in a male-dominated field.
"The army is making strides in honouring deserving women and that should be commended," said Lt Col. Nyangani.
Lieutenant Colonel Vuramayi Machaya who was also promoted said he will work hard to meet the demanding standards that the new rank is bound to bring.
"This entails more duties for me, and as someone in accounting for the ZNA for money that comes from the fiscus, it means my roles have grown," Lt Col. Machaya said.
The other newly promoted lieutenant colonels are Mushando Chinhondo, Fikelephi Dube, Smart Clever, Murdered Musithu and Chakaipa Mukuna.
They were promoted in terms of Section 15 sub-section 1(b) of the Defence Act.
