President Mugabe has promoted seven Zimbabwe National Army officers from the rank of major to Lieutenant-Colonel.
These are Mushando Chinhondo, Fikelephi Dube, Smart Clever Chapfika, Vuramayi Machaya, Murdered Musithu, Chakaipa Mukuna and Spiwe Tabitha-Nyangani. Their promotion is with effect from August 20.
Addressing the officers yesterday, ZNA Brigadier-General (administration) Shailet Moyo said the seven were hard workers who diligently discharged their duties. ‘‘Let me therefore remind you that being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel is a sign of the trust and confidence that the organisation has seen in you.
"As newly promoted Lieutenant-Colonels, let it be clear to you that your promotion will make you assume higher responsibilities and as such, the organisation expects your performance to be commensurate with your new status," she said.
Brig-Gen Moyo said the officers were expected to effectively and efficiently take care of all manpower and material resources under their command and control.
"She said the officers' behaviour and conduct should measure up to their new status. Being a Lieutenant-Colonel requires one's behaviour to be exemplary. You will be required to represent the army in various fora where your mere presence or words will be taken as official or the army's position.
"For this reason, you are expected to discharge your duties to the expectation of the organisation," Brig-Gen Moyo said. One of the officers, Lt-Col Chinhondo, described the promotion as a great achievement.
"We are quite aware of the new challenges and responsibilities commensurate with our new ranks, so please Madam, be assured of our undivided allegiance, loyalty and dedication to duty.
"We have realised through this promotion that such efforts are recognised and rewarded," he said.
