An International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation will visit Zimbabwe next month to hold talks on the restoration of normal ties with the government.

The delegation, which will meet the fiscal and monetary authorities as well as business representative institutions, is expected to extend a staff monitored programme (SMP) for the country meant to resume relations with Zimbabwe.

Sources within the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development confirmed to the ZBC News this weekend that the delegation will also have an opportunity of finalising discussions with the government on a debt repayment strategy paving way for future funding.

An economic commentator Patrick Gwasera says the IMF commitment to the economy will depend on the ability by the organisation in resuming financial aid to Zimbabwe.

"We hope such deals will unlock more opportunities for the country," said Gwasera.

The IMF has in the past 18 months been holding discussions with the government in a development that is reflecting its commitment to restore financial support to the country.
