Zanu PF politburo members Jonathan Moyo and Obert Mpofu are reportedly angling for the party's national chairperson post.

Mpofu and Moyo have in recent weeks been pushing arguments that the national chairperson's position was not reserved for former PF Zapu members following the signing of the 1987 Unity Accord.

Mpofu defected from PF Zapu to Zanu before the signing of the Unity Accord while Moyo was brought to Zanu by the late Ndabaningi Sithole.

Moyo reportedly fled from a Zanla  training camp in Tanzania at the height of the liberation struggle  to pursue studies in the United States.

The Zanu PF spin doctor was quoted in the state media at the weekend saying the post of national chairperson was not for former PF Zapu members but was open to all party members.

"Moyo and Mpofu are interested in that post but the PF Zapu technicality stands in their way. That is why they have been pushing the argument that the chairmanship is open for all," said a Zanu PF insider.

Zanu PF will hold its elective congress in December.
