Zanu-PF's politburo on Wednesday upheld the Youth and Women's league election results, keeping alive VP Mujuru's bid to retain her post as second secretary.
The politburo rejected attempts by losing candidates to nullify the results on alleged widespread cheating. Zanu-PF spokesperson Rugare Gumbo said the party endorsed the results without any hurdles.
A senior official in the Mnangagwa faction said had taken the matter to the highest level but could not convince the reversal of the decision.
The source said the number of complaints received for the elections shows there was manipulation. Gumbo said the politburo was frank as member's openly aired their views.
Sources say the Zanu-PF politburo has failed to contain the intensifying battle for the heart and soul of the party in the aftermath of the chaotic Youth and Women's League conferences as it became clear the centre is no longer firmly holding.
