Prophetess Ruth Makandiwa, wife to United Family International Church (UFIC) celebrity preacher, Emmanuel, celebrated her birthday with children from different charities in Harare yesterday.
The function was held at Harare Children's Home in Eastlea.
Prophetess Makandiwa donated groceries to the children as well as to workers at the homes.
The children were given gift parcels while the guardians were given dishes full of groceries.
"The beneficiaries of the school fees programmes are here, from primary to university level," Pastor Prime Kufa, the spokesperson of the church, said.
"We targeted our number at 1 000, I did not do a head count, but as you can see there are a lot of children. Their guardians are here as well.
"This has been happening since 2009 and Mai Makandiwa feels that they are her children. We hold these parties at different homes. This year we have children from Tanyaradzwa Children's Home, Harare Children's Home, Kutenda Children's Home, Redemption Children's Home and Danai Children's Home."
Kufa said charity work was not new to Prophetess Makandiwa, as she helps people all year round.
"Charity is her passion, what people do not know is that out of the public eye, she helps a lot of people, especially the vulnerable," he said.
"She meets children's homes budgets by providing foodstuffs as well as school fees.
"It's not only done in Harare, even outside the capital she assists children's homes as well. Almost every area around the country which has a UFIC, she provides assistance."
