Witchcraft torments family

IN the real world, we often live by a saying that "seeing is believing", but in the supernatural world the opposite is true.
While disputes of witchcraft and juju have always been open to different introspection, it, however, often becomes a story when you find a "man biting a dog" instead of the common other way round.
Conversely, when a man comes out in the open to share his personal family problems with complete strangers, something would really have to be amiss.
This is the case with an estranged family man, Denford Chidari from the high-density suburb of Hobhouse in Mutare, whose life has turned into a living hell. He is pointing an accusing finger at his own parents and relatives saying they wanted him dead using witchcraft.
The Weekender on Tuesday visited the feeble-looking Chidari who obviously looks troubled at his Hob house stand.
Chidari, who is a police officer by profession, said it was the severe nature of things happening in his life and to his family that had made him open the lid on his family secrets.
He said his parents and relatives were envious of him because he was prospering in life. He now owns a residential stand and is building his house, something that only a few have managed to do in his family.
Chidari, who hails from Masvingo where he claims that the use of witchcraft was rife, said he wanted to tell the world his story in the event something terrible happens to him.
He said quite often, witchcraft matters were hard to convince people, but he was now desperate and just wants to save his family.
"My parents and relatives are baying for my blood. We found 'muti weMunyamharadzi' dug in the ground in our yard under a pile of concrete stones.
"This was after my wife and I decided to consult some prophets and traditional healers from Zinatha (Zimbabwe National Traditional Healers Association) who told us to look under a pile of concrete stones in our yard.
"Munyamharadzi is juju used to destroy marriages or make people go crazy. Ever since I invited my parents to come and see my residential stand early this year, we started fighting with my wife over trivial things.
"I would get into bouts of madness and just leave home for days, but ever since we removed chiMunyamharadzi all has been well," said the distraught Chidari.
His wife, Brenda Ziduche from Marange, said Chidari's parents never approved of her which is why they might be doing what they were doing to end the marriage.
"I know that they never wanted their son to marry a woman from this side. They wanted him to marry a woman from Masvingo and live in Masvingo, so I think all these efforts are meant to frustrate our marriage and send me packing.
"A lot of weird things are happening here and we are now afraid that something nasty will happen to us. We are now constantly visiting prophets for spiritual intervention and assistance because of the strange dreams and weird things that sometimes happen.
"Just over the weekend, we saw a mouse digging a hole by the doorstep. This is unusual because mice avoid people.
"We were told by a traditional healer that this was witchcraft and the mouse was being used to steal all the money in our possession and make us bankrupt. We were told that those behind it did not want to see us building our house. We were told to kill it and burn it with salt.
"Before we removed chiMunyamharadzi Baba Delight would always have these bad dreams and tantrums in the middle of the night. It was bad," said Ziduche.
Chidari's brother-in-law, who is currently staying with them, Onai Ziduche, said it was definitely witchcraft haunting the family.
"Zvechivanhu zviriko (Witchcraft is there) and that is what is happening to my sister's family. It is clear that if they do not get help they will all die," said Onai.
Chidari has a five-year-old daughter and a one-year-old son.
He said he was also told by the prophets and traditional healers that when he was a child an omen "yechibabamunini" was put on him by his family members.
"This omen was meant to stop me from ever marrying. I would marry a person my parents would choose for me.
"But because I am Christian and by the grace of God I never told my parents when I had found the right woman. I just married her and only told them when our first born daughter was about to be born.
"I know these things might be hard to believe, but it is true and I really wonder why my parents would go at length to do this," said Chidari.
Attempts to get in touch with his father, Aleck Chidari in the rural areas in Masvingo were futile by time of going to press on Tuesday as his given cellphone number was not reachable.
His elder brother, Monday Chidari's phone was constantly ringing and not being answered.
A prophet who spoke on condition of anonymity said it was witchcraft at play.
"This family needs cleansing because their enemies will not rest until they achieve their objective. They should continue seeking divine intervention. With God nothing is impossible," he said.
