Man (34) assaults mother

ASSAULTING his mother earned a Dangamvura man a $50 fine, failure to pay will result in him spending 30 days in prison.

Privilege Sithole (34) of Area B, Dangamvura appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Poterai Gwezhira on Monday and was convicted on his own plea of guilty.

He was facing charges of assaulting his mother, Tsitsi Zichichiwe (59). The incident happened last Saturday.

The court heard that an allegedly drunk Sithole asked his mother about the whereabouts of his wife and she refused to tell him.

This did not go down well with Sithole who proceeded to assault Zichichiwe.

She was saved by her neighbours.

Zichichiwe sustained injuries on the head and back as a result of the assault.

In his defence, Sithole claimed that he was under the influence of alcohol when he committed the offence.

"I admit that what I did was wrong and had no right to do so, but I was under the influence of alcohol. I am married and I have a family to take care of," said Sithole

However, the court heard that it was the third time Sithole had assaulted his mother.

Mr Gwezhira ordered Sithole to pay a fine of $50 or face a 30-day imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine by September 30.
