Drafting of new Zimbabwe constitution to commence by month end

CONSTITUTIONAL experts from Kenya and Ghana are in the country to share their experiences and exchange notes with the country's Constitution Select Committee (Copac) ahead of the drafting stage set to commence by month end.
This visit is expected to help Copac members as they start the drafting stage of the new Constitution.
MDC-T Copac co-chairperson, Douglas Mwonzora said the Constitution Select Committee is trying to avoid any pitfalls in the drafting stage hence the invitation of colleagues from other African countries which has had the same experience.
Zanu-PF Copac co-chairperson, Munyaradzi Paul Mangwana said as the Constitutional Select Committee is about to enter into the critical stage of drafting, it is important to share experiences with other countries which went through the same process.
Ghanaian constitutional expert, Proffessor Kwamena Ahwoyi advised the Zimbabwean drafters to take into cognisance the issue of continuity in the Constitution.
Ghana re-wrote its Constitution in 1992 while Kenya's constitution was accepted by the people through a referendum last year.
By the end of this month the Constitution Select Committee is expected to commence the drafting of the new Constitution, a stage which has been described to be the most critical.
