Harare - The Harare City Council officials (HCC) yesterday snubbed a stakeholders meeting meant to engage Communities and Residents Associations on the access to water campaign held yesterday in Harare.

City officials did not turn up to the meeting after they confirmed their participation to discuss issues affecting Harare residents on water situation and how best they can address it.

The meeting was organized by the Zimbabwe Coalition for Debt Development (ZIMCODD) a social and economic justice coalition, dedicated to facilitating citizens` involvement, through their sectors and as activists in making public policy and practice pro-people and sustainable.

However, Harare's high density suburb Mabvuku has gone for twelve dry years with the city fathers not showing interest to address the situation.

Residents say there have tried to engage the city fathers countless times but to no avail.

"The water situation here is very frustrating, our kids who were born twelve years ago they do not know that there is anything called tap water all they know is going to collect water in uncovered wells."

"We are tired of the city council, we have tried by all means to protest at town house, engaging them on how best they can address the situation but nothing has come out of it," said Josephine Manyeruke a Mabvuku Resident.

Harare has been battling with water crisis since 2000s, residents facing frequent water disconnections.
