President Robert Mugabe has inaugurated the 3rd Non- Aligned Movement (NAM) science and technology workshop on minerals processing and beneficiation in Harare.

Addressing delegates from 19 NAM countries, the President said there is need to beneficiate and value add minerals in third world countries.

Zimbabwe's mining sector contributes to economic growth though it is still limited to exportation of minerals in their raw state or semi-processed.

The President said next year NAM member countries will meet in Indonesia where it was born.

He bemoaned the waning influence of the organisation which was key during the cold war era as the voice of the people.

The four-day workshop, also saw President Mugabe offering to host NAM's science and technology centre on mineral beneficiation.

The President was given a floating trophy for being accorded the scientist of the year status.
