Vagrant kills woman

IN a terrifying incident, villagers at Platsworth plots in Gweru were left dumbfounded after a woman was killed by a vagrant.

The incident which has become the talk of the village happened on 30 August in Plot 187 Platsworth.

Circumstances surrounding the matter are that on the fateful day Taurai Furusa (22) who is of no fixed abode went to the deceased, Rachel Zibagwe's homestead.

Upon arrival he found her alone at home and allegedly struck her on the face and on the head with an unknown object.

He then stole two blankets and went outside where he met the deceased's daughter. When the daughter asked why he was holding the blankets, he said he was her mother's boyfriend and her mother had given him the blankets.

He then ran away. The girl then called neighbours and upon arrival they discovered Zibagwe's body lying lifeless on the ground.

Platsworth villagers then teamed up in search of the murderer and they managed to catch him.

The accused appeared to be mentally unstable as his answers were not corresponding with the questions asked in court in Gweru and will have to be examined by Government doctors.

Judith Taruvinga presided over the case and Daniel Tafuma prosecuted.
