ZEC has no business in Zanu PF congress

MDC-T controversial politician Job Sikhala has said the move by Zanu PF to invite the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to supervise elections in its December congress is unconstitutional.

The faction riddled party invited ZEC to preside over their elections which Sikhala says technically means the organisation would be dabbling in the ruling party's politics.

"The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission is the elections board created by both our national constitution and by a statute called the Electoral Act. It's role and duty is to organise and conduct our national plebiscites," said Sikhala.

"ZEC as it famously known must be non partisan and should conduct elections in a free and fair manner. Zanu PF at its December elective congress has invited ZEC to conduct their elections. ZEC will be dabbling in partisan politics."

Sikhala said ZEC's execution of duty is financed by state coffers which is tax's payer's money.

"ZEC is not an arm of ZANU PF. Would the impartiality of ZEC still be in existence after their dabbling in partisan politics? Would Zimbabweans still hold any faith, if it ever existed from the beginning on ZEC? Should ZEC be allowed to conduct elections of a party? Let's deeply introspect this subject," he said.
