The Minister of Defence, Dr Sydney Sekeremayi has met the Russian delegation from Rosoboron Export as the country seeks new partnership in military equipment.

Dr Sekeramayi met the delegation, which was led by Rosoboron Export's First Deputy Director General, Mr Ivan Goncharenko at the Defence House on Monday.

Emerging from a closed door meeting with the Russian artillery and military equipment concern bosses, Dr Sekeramayi said discussions had centred on how the two countries can work together to strengthen co-operation in armaments and military mechanisation as sanctions busting measures.

"We have been taking our equipment from Britain and her allies and since we are under sanctions, we have seen it prudent to work with our friends and Rosoboron is one of the biggest manufacturers of military equipment in Russia and supplying the world," said Dr Sekeramayi.

The Russian delegation, of which the Rosoboron Export bosses is a part of, is being led by the Russian Foreign Minister, Mr Sergey Lavrov and is in the country to seek investment opportunities and partnerships in various sectors of the economy.

This is part of the implementation of the ZIMASSET economic blueprint.
