An opposition MDC-T chairperson in Kuwadzana is a free man after the High Court threw out the 2013 Magistrate Court's conviction.
Kuyeli Muchaiyana stood accused of assisting his party supporters with utility bills as proof of residence for them to register as voters in the run-up to the harmonised polls last July.
Muchaiyana was found guilty by a Harare magistrate Tendai Mahwe on October 11 2013 after being found in possession of bills for criminal use.
He was subsequently sentenced to 12 months in prison with four months suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit the same offence.
Through his lawyer Tonderai Bhasitara, Muchaiyana appealed against both judgement and sentence arguing that Mahwe had misdirected himself.
