Dubai - The UAE Kimberley Process office has approved the release and export of 14 packets of diamonds from Zimbabwe's Marange diamond fields which have been held in Dubai since November 2010.
In a statement issued today, UAE Kimberley office says the approval for the export was the result of deliberations in the Kimberley Process Working Group on Monitoring (WGM) at the recent Kimberley Process Intercessional Meeting in Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo), held between 20th and 23rd June 2011.

These diamonds were shipped to the UAE from Zimbabwe after the Kimberley Process Intercessional Meeting in Jerusalem, 1 November 2010, but before the KP Certification Scheme (KPCS) imposed an export ban on Marange diamonds on 17 November 2010. Therefore, the status of these diamonds was unclear.
The UAE KP office confirms its commitment to the Kimberly Process and continued adherence to the rules and procedures which includes any future shipment of rough diamonds from Zimbabwe.
