Transport and Infrastructure Development minister Obert Mpofu has revealed that government will soon embark on major revamping of the country's roads.

Mpofu said government was aware that the country's highways and rural roads needed attention.

He said to hasten the project government would be allocating 2 000 litres of diesel per grader per month to the 80 motor graders that were allocated to road authorities through Zinara.

Mpofu said he instructed Zinara to deliver additional diesel for the graders and some of the authorities started receiving theirs yesterday indicating that each grader will receive 2 000 litres per month for the next three months.

Meanwhile, Mpofu yesterday implored NRZ employees to be patient and allow government to negotiate a $700 million loan from the Development Bank of South Africa to revitalise the transport utility.

He said the revival was key to returning Bulawayo to its former glory of being the industrial hub of the country.

Mpofu re-iterated that when awarding tenders, government insists on local individualistic manner in which businesspeople from Matebeleland region conduct themselves.

Mpofu said they should organise themselves into groups and take advantage of government's infrastructural development projects.
