Members of the public almost meted out instant justice on a commuter omnibus driver who knocked down and killed a pedestrian along the Rotten Row road in Harare on Wednesday afternoon.
A commuter omnibus driver knocked down and killed a pedestrian and tried to flee from the scene before being apprehended by an angry mob who witnessed the horrific accident.
Public transport drivers are required by law to have at least five years driving experience, but the visibly shaken driver failed to produce his licence prompting some people who had gathered at the scene of the accident to call for instant justice.
According to the Road Motor Transportation Act chapter 13:10, public service vehicle drivers should be above the age of 25, should have a retest certificate, defensive driving and medical fitness.
The commuter omnibus should have an operator's licence, certificate of fitness, route authority, passenger insurance and current licence disc.
