A Zimbabwean man, Shepherd Chiwanza (39) based in Botswana was last Wednesday arrested for allegedly stabbing his wife Mildred Tamanai (29) seven times after accusing her of infidelity.
Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the incident.
He said preliminary investigations had shown that Chiwanza returned home on Wednesday from his base in Botswana and immediately confronted his wife over extramarital affairs she was allegedly having. Insp Mabgweazara said Chiwanza reported his wife's alleged infidelity to her father in a bid to resolve the matter.
"After he came back from Botswana, Chiwanza had a misunderstanding with Tamanai, whom he accused of having extramarital affairs with several men.
"The two called Tamanai's father, who resides in the neighbourhood, to resolve the matter. However, they did not reach an understanding and the couple left Tamanai's father in the lounge while they went to their bedroom where they had a heated argument," said Insp Mabgweazara.
Insp Mabgweazara said Tamanai's father heard some noise in the bedroom before he went to investigate.
"He heard some noise from the bedroom and, as he was on his way to investigate, he met Chiwanza wielding a blood-stained kitchen knife. On seeing his father-in-law, Chiwanza bolted out of the room.
Tamanai's father proceeded to the bedroom, where he saw his daughter crying for help. She was in a pool of blood and had seven stab wounds in the chest," he said.
Tamanai's father hired a car which ferried her to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital where she died soon after admission.
A report was made at Chemagamba Police Station and Chiwanza was arrested at his parents' house in Chinhoyi. Results of a post-mortem carried out on Tamanai's body are expected soon while Chiwanza is expected to appear in court this week.
