The Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Professor Jonathan Moyo has slapped Hurungwe East legislator, Themba Mliswa and the Newsday newspaper with a US$20 million each lawsuit for defamation.
Legal practitioner, Advocate Jonathan Samkange of Samkange and Venturas told the ZBC News that Professor Moyo and the Minister of Environment, Water and Climate, Saviour Kasukuwere have instructed him to file for defamation charges against Mliswa and the Newsday, a daily publication of the Alpha Media Holdings.
According to Advocate Samkange, both ministers have filed separate lawsuits against Mliswa and the Newsday to the tune of US$20 million.
The lawsuits come after Mliswa was quoted in the Newsday on three different articles denigrating the cabinet ministers.
The third one on 1 October 2014 had a headline, 'Mugabe Faces Gay Gangsters.'
Mr Samkange said all the quoted articles defamed the two cabinet ministers hence the lawsuits.
The ZBC News also has it on good authority that two more publications will be sued for alleged defamation by the same cabinet ministers in the next few days.
