CONTROVERSIAL 'academic' Grace Mugabe has spoken for the first time in response to her philosophy degree saying certificates and titles are useless if the holder does not deliver any meaningful development to the people.

Observers have perceived the First Lady's sentiments as a direct response to her controversial doctorate that received widespread criticism amid reports that she might have received it on political favors in a bid to spruce up her political career.

Addressing her maiden political rally in Chinhoyi following her recent nomination to lead the Zanu PF Women's League, Grace vowed to shame her detractors saying what matters most was not titles, but ability to deliver on people's needs.

"You might have the title, but fail to garner the respect from the people . . . I can be called First Lady or Doctor Mugabe and put certificates on the walls of my house, but that certificate is not the one that will work," Grace was quoted by Newsday today.

Grace was at pains to explain that she "worked hard" for her doctorate and vowed to shame her distract

UZ authorities have kept silent over the issue while Grace's sympathisers have claimed that the speculative reports were part of a plot to derail her budding political career.
