GOVERNMENT has warned MDC-T leader from staging street demos saying they will deploy security details to "deal" with the activists causing disharmony in the country.
Apparently referring to a police crackdown which government has often launched to deal violently with members of the opposition Home Affairs Minister Kembo Mohadi yesterday warned that government would not "watch" on the sidelines Tsvangirai's planned protests which local prophets have predicted would generate into bloodshed.
Mohadi, a State controlled paper reported today, said he was charged with maintaining law and order in the country and would not be found wanting in that respect.
"I can't speak on behalf of Tsvangirai but what I can tell you is that my responsibility as minister is to ensure that there's law and order prevailing in the country. I'm charged with making sure that the country is peaceful and orderly at all times," he said.
"If there's any threat of disturbing the peace in the country, my duty is to act and restore order. If people threaten to take the law into their own hands, then tough luck to them because we will be there to enforce the law," the minister was quoted by the Chronicle today.
However, despite warnings by Zanu PF the clergy, Tsvangirai has vowed to continue with the demonstrations but analysts have said Zanu PF which has in the past used security details to deal with those opposed to it would likely employ the same way to thwart his moves, a scenario which is feared to lead into bloodshed.
