ZANU-PF officials are jockeying to appease First Lady Grace Mugabe who has become one of forces to reckon with in the revolutionary party currently struggling to address its dirty factional fights which have thrown into disharmony.
But this afternoon addressed a convincing audience at the City Sports Centre in Harare as part of her campaign trail which began a few days ago.
Today Grace told Zan- PF officials in Harare who had gathered to pay tribute to her claimed that she is the face of Zimbabwean politics as her political career grows blossoms in unprecedented speed.
The rally was attended by Information minister Jonathan Moyo and his deputy Supa Mandiwanzira, Zimbabwe Defence Forces General Constantine Chiwenga's former wife Jocelyn, Owen Ncube and Annastacia Ndlovu amongst Zanu-PF dignitaries excluding the Harare Province leaders.
A few days after Grace accused some Zanu-PF officials of faking their allegiance to the party and its leader Mugabe, today, as if for fear of being sacked from the party, Zanu-PF officials took turns to shower praises to Grace, while chanting party slogans.
And Harare Provincial chairman Amos Midzi confirmed that there was competition within the party to appease the First Lady.
"…We as children that want to be close to [our] mother . . ." he said in Shona (Isu sevana vese vanoda kuswedera padyo naamai).
Grace's apparent fan, Oppah Muchinguri again introduced Grace as the "Queen mother, mother of all Queens" of whose mission is to end Zanu-PF factionalism.
"Factionalism had threatened to tear down the party...Now that there is Dr Mugabe, you will not be able to hold backdoor meetings," she said.
She also said Grace would not wait for December (Zanu-PF Congress) as she had already started undertaking her duties as the Women's League boss.
