First Lady Grace Mugabe has warned the Zanu-PF government to deliver on its election promises or face defeat in the 2018 elections.

Addressing a packed City Sports Centre in Harare, yesterday, as part of her "meet the people tour", the first lady warned the ruling party that people are angry because of failure by the state to deliver on its promises.

"We are spending time fighting for power letting down our people. During election time we made promises and if we fail to deliver on the promises, it will be a challenge in the next elections. Do not take the people for granted, ask me, I will tell you that do not take people for granted (sic)," she said.

In the run-up to the July 31 2013 elections, Zanu-PF, in its election manifesto, promised to create over two million jobs and improve the social well-being of citizens through provision of roads and improved health facilities, among other deliverables.

But according to the First Lady, government is battling to deliver on its promises, among them the provision of water and other social services as signs that it was struggling to meet its obligations.

"People are angry in Harare. If people are angry, they will not listen to you. Focus on developmental issues," she told the national leadership adding; ".... leaders must not lose focus because of factionalism. Focus on development for the people".

Mugabe urged the party not to take people for granted.
