Grade 7 'dropout' kills father for not sending him to school

MASVINGO - A 27years old Grade Seven dropout fatally assaulted his father over a long standing grudge of not sending him to school.

Reports state that in February last year the accused Gibson Muchemesi went for a beer binge with his friends where upon his return he found his father Reuben Muchemesi whom they stayed together sleeping in his bedroom hut.

He allegedly forcibly pushed open the hut and fell on his sleeping father who asked him what was amiss.

Muchemesi then accused his father of being responsible for his state of poverty because he had not sent him to school. He then went outside and drew a log. Sensing danger, the 64-year old man ran for dear life but undeterred Muchemesi caught up with him and assaulted him using the log until he bled profusely.

The father screamed for help but no one came to his rescue. Seeing that he was dead the accused escaped leaving him lying still. The deceased was taken to a mortuary in Masvingo when a post-mortem revealed that he had died due to serious head injuries.

The High Court last week sentenced Muchemesi for 22 years in prison for murder.
