Three fire brigade trucks are battling to put out a fire that broke out at Zesa Harare Thermal Power Station along Coventry Road this afternoon.

The cause of the fire is still unknown but workers told NewsDay that maintenance work at the station triggered the fire.

Of the three fire engines deployed at the station, two have run out of water and had to go back to refill as workers mill around helplessly watching the fire, razing down disused transformers and cables.

Zesa workers are blaming the fire brigade for allegedly bringing fire tenders without water while the other fire engine is said to have brought a small hosepipe that failed to put out the fire when it started.
