Man kills 72-year-old aunt over witchcraft

A 40-year-old man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for killing his 72 year old aunt over witchcraft.
Phillip Chiurunge from Shumbayaonda School had pleaded guilty to the charge of murder when he appeared before Justice Francis Bere.
Justice Bere said the court did not condone barbaric behaviour and the accused acted unreasonably.
Additionally, the court does not recognise issues of witchcraft.
Chiurunge went to Ndaichinyei Chimbuya's homestead in the same area and asked her if she was responsible for his mother's paralysis.
He had consulted a traditional healer about his mother's ailment and then went to confront his aunt about the issue.
He used a log to assault and she died later that night in her homestead.
