Alhaji Arubi, a local dealer, has been arrested for beating and stabbing a local medical doctor over a girlfriend.

Arubi, 36, also faced a separate assault and theft charge when he appeared before magistrate Sekai Chiundura.

He denied all three charges.

It is the State's case that on October 11 Arubi confronted Kumbirai Chirenda, 31, who works at Mutare Provincial Hospital as he arrived at his flat accusing him of dating his girlfriend.

He then allegedly assaulted him with booted feet and clenched fists all over his body before stabbing him with a knife in his left palm.

Later that same evening, he went on to assault Leslie Muchuwa.

He then seized a Samsung Galaxy S5 mobile phone.

His bail application was turned down in part because he had a previous record for assault although the charges were dropped before plea.

He was remanded in custody to October 30 for trial.

Brian Goto prosecuted.
