Harare - Movement for Democratic Change Tsvangirai (MDC T) returnee Job "Wiwa" Sikhala has been nabbed by the party's National Executive Committee from contesting elections for a position in the MDC T.
Writing in a Facebook post Sikhala cries foul at the way he was treated by members of the party who openly told that he will not be allowed to contest in any elections in the party. Sikhala describes the way party members who he always regarded as friends fought him out of the National Executive Committee meeting "like an unwanted snake." Sikhala is amased how the NEC could stop him from contesting elections despite receiving nominations from the provinces.
The usually robust Sikhala sounding very calm expresses shock at the way party president Morgan Tsvangirai reacted to the matter who only expressed sorrow to the former MDC 99 leader and expressed that the enmity in the party was overwhelming.
In June this year, Bulawayo24 was provided information by some senior officials of the party who warned Sikhala that he will not be allowed to contest any elections in the party but must wait to be deployed as a prodigal son.
"Who is Sikhala to come and tell us that? A prodigal son can not come and dictate pace on people who never left the party. If he wants to get a position in the party he must just keep quiet and leave us to do our thing and we will see where to place him otherwise he will go empty handed," said one official of the party back in June.
Here is Job Sikhala's full statement as posted on Facebook on Saturday evening;
"It is with sadness that I announce that I was fought like an unwanted snake that has entered someone's house at my party's National executive meeting today by people l thought were friends and colleagues in the people's movement that I must not be allowed to contest for any position in the party. I heard even the senior officials in the party fought that despite 5 nominations by provinces l must not be allowed to be elected by the people to the position they think I can best save the party. I talked to the president who was very sorrowful about the way how I was denied the right to contest for any position. He said the enmity was overwhelming. I thank those comrades who took that decision and l wish they prosecute the struggle with the precision we all desire. Thanks God it's in his plan. As long as my family is ok and safe. "
