A FUND secretary Engineering Medical Aid Fund has appeared before magistrate Milton Serima after she alleged lost $61000 due to non-existent claims.
Accused Angeline Kanyemba was not asked to plead to the charges.
The State led by prosecutor Sharon Mashavira alleges that on August 15, management at Engineering Medical Aid Fund held a meeting so as to discuss issues pertaining to the non-payment of outstanding claims.
Indications are that it was realised during the meeting that payments released for the purpose of paying those claims did not tally with the amounts that had been released.
And it is said that during the same meeting, it was then established that between January this year and May 13, Angeline and one Vengai Vurombe, raised, authorised and issued 52 cheques valued at US$25 648,60 to Venvur Consultants and Ubuntu Fishing Co-op to pay for services which they had never procured.
Reports are that Ubuntu is owned by Nigel Dhliwayo who is an Accounts Clerk for Engineering Medical Fund.
It is said that it was also realised that from February 24 to March 31, Angeline signed some withdrawal slips and her alleged accomplice withdrew US$37 102 cash from the company's account.
The total money which the medical aid fund lost as a result of the scam is valued at US$61 840,60 and nothing was recovered.
