MATABELELAND SOUTH - FOUR children from the same family survived death by a whisker when the house they were sleeping in collapsed following strong winds in Zelezele village, Gwanda South, on Saturday night.
Tebogo Dube (4), Blessed Dube (4) and Letsoe Dube (12) are admitted at Gwanda hospital, while Lerong Dube (10) was treated and discharged.
Thandolwenkosi Mazwi, a relative of the four children, said the incident happened at around 11pm.
"The four were sleeping in one room, when strong winds blew away six roofing sheets, resulting in the building carving-in and injuring them," he said.
"Lerong managed to rescue herself from the building and alerted her grandparents who were sleeping in another room."
The two boys suffered head injuries while the elder girl suffered a fractured pelvis.
Mazwi said the strong winds also uprooted trees.
The three were initially taken to Manama Hospital before being transferred to Gwanda Hospital, where they are said to be in a serious condition.
