Government will deploy doctors from the uniformed forces to hospitals as a temporary measure to attend to patients and ensure normalcy prevails at the country's hospitals as the industrial action by junior doctors entered its second day yesterday.
The doctors went on strike on Monday demanding a salary increase saying the lowest junior doctor earns $282 per month, which they want raised to $1,200.
Mpilo Central Hospital Clinical director, Dr Wedu Ndebele said police and army doctors were already working at the hospital.
Health and Child Care permanent secretary Gerald Gwinji said his ministry was still assessing the situation.
Meanwhile, WHO has asked Zimbabwe to send personnel to West Africa to help combat the deadly Ebola Virus, a senior government official has said.
The revelations add to the pressure already being applied to the Zimbabwe government by health and aid groups for it to send doctors, nurses and other skilled workers to West Africa to support international efforts to control the disease outbreak, which has already claimed almost 5 000 lives.
Paul Chimedza, Zimbabwe's deputy minister of Health and Child Care said they are not sure if there is a group that has been put up to go there but he is aware that the request came.
