CHITUNGWIZA - A SUSPECTED thief recently assaulted two security guards and then unleashed dogs on them after they allegedly caught him stealing tomatoes and onions at the premises they were guarding.
The suspect, Clifton Mabhurukwa (25), who stays in St Mary's section, denied the two counts of assault when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Musaiona Shotgame on Tuesday.
State allegations are that on September 30 this year, the two security guards Tinashe Mutimwii (44) and Size Anopi (65) were on duty at Chinhau Investments in Chitungwiza when they intercepted Mabhurukwa stealing the vegetables.
Mabhurukwa allegedly later teamed up with two other men, who are still at large, and two dogs and stormed the place again.
The court heard that Mabhurukwa assaulted Mutumwii and Anopi with fists several times before setting the dogs on the hapless guards, leaving them seriously injured.
The matter was postponed to tomorrow for judgment.
