The University of Zimbabwe has banned kissing and sex in campus. A memo circulated in the institution's hostels states that students who breach the rule would be disciplined.

This comes a fortnight after Campus Vibe exposed the prevalence of bathroom sex in Kenyan universities.

Kenyan student leaders reacted angrily to the Zimbabwean case.

Sonu chairman Babu Owino said, "I don't think that is a university! It is wrong to criminalise kissing."

Gretsa University President Ruth Achieng added her voice to the debate: "Not that Gretsa allows kissing, but it is natural. It is only wrong if the kissing is between people of same sex kissing."

Meimuna Said, outgoing JKUSO vice president said, "From an African point of view, I agree with the directive. You don't do such things in public."

Moi Uni's Justin Safari joined with the statement, "A comrade must kiss a comrade, no compromise." Maseno Unis Ivy Keziah disclosed that, "I kiss often times on campus and in the open. Anyone restricting me would be violating my rights."
