President Robert Mugabe is in Vienna, Austria where he will attend the second conference on landlocked developing countries to be held from Monday the 3rd of this month to the 6th.
Mugabe left the country last night in the company of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Simbarashe Mumbengegwi and other senior government officials.
He was seen off at the Harare International Airport by the Senior Minister of State, Simon Khaya Moyo; the Vice President, Dr Joice Mujuru; Zanu-PF Secretary for Administration, Didymus Mutasa; the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Misheck Sibanda and service chiefs.
The conference aims at shaping the new development agenda for landlocked developing countries for the next decade.
Lack of access to the sea, remoteness and isolation from world markets, as well as high transit costs impose serious constraints on the socio-economic development of land locked developing countries.
Land locked countries are generally among the poorest of the developing countries with the weakest growth rates and are heavily dependent on limited commodities for their export earnings.
Meanwhile, Dr Mujuru is the Acting President.
