War veterans from Marondera district staged a peaceful demonstration demanding that Zanu-PF Mashonaland East provincial chairperson Ray Kaukonde and the entire executive step down.

The demonstrators started their peaceful march at the war veterans' offices in Marondera and went through the central business district singing revolutionary songs and ended their march at the Zanu-PF provincial offices.

They were carrying placards written 'Ray and His Executive Must Go', "Pamberi NaBaba NaMai Mugabe', 'War Vets Varamba Tonga-Watonga" and "Baba Havagarwe Nhaka Vari Vapenyu."

A representative of the war veterans, Patrick Makombe, said they are not happy with Kaukonde's executive for having mobilized youths to disrupt Amai Mugabe's rally at Rudhaka Stadium last month.

The demonstrators were addressed by Secretary for Security in the Politburo, Dr Sidney Sekeramayi, who had come for an inter-district meeting.

Dr Sekeramayi said their concerns have been noted and will be looked into, adding dialogue must be the way forward.

Dr Sekeramayi's speech was however punctuated by interjections from the war veterans who continued chanting that "Kaukonde Must Go."

The demonstrators later dispersed.
