HELL has no fury like "a ditched man".
A Bulawayo-based truck driver recently travelled all the way to Gweru, where he allegedly assaulted and tried to strangle his wife at her workplace.
This was after he tried to persuade her to accompany him to Bulawayo and asking her to reconsider her decision to divorce him.
The suspect, Brian Chibwa (35), who gave his address to the courts as 329 Ascot, Gweru, but at times resides in Sizinda, Bulawayo, was brought before Gweru magistrate, Mr Meo Rubwe, yesterday to answer to charges of assault, kidnapping and theft.
Chibwa, who is employed as a truck driver by a Bulawayo-based butchery, pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody to 4 November for continuation of trial.
For the State, Mr Bernard Nyoni said on 15 July at around 9am, the accused went to Beta Printers in the heavy industrial area, the workplace of Ms Memory Dzveta, who is the complainant.
Mr Nyoni said while at the workplace an argument ensued between the two who then started exchanging insults.
He said Chibwa lost his temper and tried to strangle the complainant.
Mr Nyoni said the accused started assaulting Ms Dzveta with booted feet and open hands.
He said he pulled her out of her office and dragged her for about 600m in the direction of the Gweru-Bulawayo highway close to Fair Mile Hotel, forcing her to accompany him to Bulawayo.
The court heard that while at Fair Mile Hotel, Chibwa once again asked Ms Dzveta to accompany him to Bulawayo and when she continued to refuse, he started punching her with fists.
Mr Nyoni said the accused took the complainant's phone and got into a car that was going to Bulawayo, leaving the complainant by the roadside.
He said her workmates made a follow-up and discovered Ms Dzveta with some injuries and a bruised face.
They took her to Gweru Provincial Hospital where she was treated and discharged.
A report was made to the police, leading to the arrest of Chibwa.
