A 31-year-old man from Bulawayo's Nkulumane suburb has been arrested after his mother reported him to the police for stealing her cellphone.

Tawana Moyo appeared before magistrate Temba Chimiso facing theft as well as indecent assault charges after he allegedly fondled her mother's maid after he had stolen the cellphone.

The magistrate remanded him in custody to November 13.

Moyo pleaded not guilty to the indecent assault charge, but was not asked to plead on the theft charge.

"Your worship, I did not fondle her breast. I do not know what they are talking about," Moyo said.

Prosecuting Mitchelle Chiboiwa told the court that some time last month, Moyo went into the kitchen and took his mother's cellphone while she was outside the house. His mother, Sithokozile Vundla, reported the matter to the police.

Chiboiwa said on Monday, Moyo sneaked into his mother's maid's blankets while she was asleep and fondled her breasts. The girl screamed for help and Moyo tried to cover her mouth to silence her.

His sister, Sitshengisiwe Moyo, who was in the sitting room rushed to the bedroom and when she walked in, Moyo walked out without saying anything. The maid narrated to her what had happened and Sitshengisiwe alerted her mother about the incident.

Vundla told her daughter to call the police leading to Moyo's arrest.
