Walter Mzembi, Zimbabwe's minister of Tourism defended Grace Mugabe's presidential ambitions during an interview with Stephen Sackur on BBC Hardtalk.
After grilling Mzembi on issues relating to tourism and the economic situation in Zimbabwe, Sackur decided to dwell into Grace Mugabe's Presidential ambitions.
"Grace Mugabe now looks to be the President of the country do you think that will be good for Zimbabwe," asked Sackur.
Mzembi responded: "I don't think there has been an interest to that extent what I know is that she has been invited by an organ under Zanu-PF called the Women's League to be its next Secretary and the President is yet to affirm that."
Sackur asked if Mzembi defends Grace on her call for Mujuru to resign immediately of which he responded saying "that is a conversation taking place in the Women's League and I am not yet a woman and not even an honourary one,' said Mzembi.
Sackur also asked if a Mugabe dynasty will be good for Zimbabwe.
Mzembi respondend by saying, "As an individual she has a claim in terms of ambitions to the presidency just like I have it, there is nothing that stops her to express ambitions because the constitution of Zimbabwe enshrines those ambitions and to the extent that she has pronounced them ahead of me and Joe Block back at home she should not be criminalised for that because if there is gonna be a vacancy in the future I am sure there will be competition for it."
Sackur said that will be very damaging for Zimbabwe if as it Zanu-PF tears apart.
Mzembi responded by saying Zanu-PF is a democratic movement which is emulating what is done at Westminister.
"No Zanu-PF is actually a very democratic movement and is doing exactly what you do here in the United Kingdom when you are approach conventions robust debate around issue, robust debate about personalities who are wanting to assume office of one shed or another and we have learnt it from you, its your Westminister model," Mzembi hit back.
