A DANGAMVURA man, David Mugayi, who in October last year killed a prostitute after an altercation over money, was last week sentenced to six years in jail.

Mugayi (36) was on Thursday convicted of culpable homicide and sentenced on his own plea of guilty for causing the death of Tatenda Homwe when he appeared before the High Court circuit led by Justice Hungwe.

The court heard that on October 21 last year, Mugayi bought beer for Homwe before asking to be intimate with her outside a local night club.

The two, however, failed to agree on the amount with Homwe demanding $10 and Mugayi offering to pay $5.

Mugayi argued that he had spent a lot of money buying her beer.

Homwe moved to another night club in Dangamvura.

The court heard that Mugayi pursued her until she gave in to his demands, but after being intimate, they started arguing again over the fee. Mugayi told the High Court that Homwe grabbed his private parts, a move that prompted him to strangle her.

Upon realising that Homwe had died, Mugayi dragged her body and dumped it in the bush. The body was found stashed in between green shrubs just outside House Number 346, Area 14, the following morning. Homwe's face was bruised and had traces of blood, while her neck had finger nail scratches.
