Tsvangirai's hypocrisy on political violence

Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) Leader, Morgan Tsvangirai addressed a National Standing Committee meeting attended by twelve members at Harvest House's 4th floor auditorium in Harare on May 11, 2011, where he spelt out that he would go for a diplomatic offensive mission around SADC states.

Tsvangirai indicated that he would visit SADC countries in May 2011 to convince them that MDC-T was ready to implement all outstanding issues of the Global Political Agreement (GPA).

He also asserted that he would inform SADC leaders that MDC-T was against political violence. He also added that he would show footage of burnt homes and injured people during political violence perpetrated by unknown arsonists whom MDC-T alleged was linked to ZANU-PF activists in Cashel Valley, Chimanimani East House of Assembly Constituency in Manicaland to buttress the idea that ZANU-PF was behind acts of political. This allegation is not backed by any tangible evidence apart from speculation.

Tsvangirai has adopted a fierce defensive strategy to his violence torn party which is haunted by incessant internal physical fights. He is even vacillating over how he can reconcile irreparable differences which have taken root in the party. After end of the party's recent congress in Bulawayo, he was contemplating expelling warlords of violence such as Martison Hlalo and Gordon Moyo. But it appears he is afraid of the possible negative repercussions of this move to the fabric of his party.

However, SADC should be warned in advance that Tsvangirai's hands are dripping with blood, despite his arrogance that his party is on the receiving end of ZANU-PF violence. How does he explain internal skirmishes which erupted in Bulawayo amongst his supporters? What role could ZANU-PF have possibly played on such madness which cost some of the supporters their limbs? On violence, Morgan Tsvangirai is a first class hypocrite!

If Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC-T are ready to implement all outstanding issues of the GPA, then they should make public their comprehensive plan and strategy on how they will have sanctions lifted. As per GPA provisions, the MDC have a mandatory obligation to ensure the unconditional removal of the illegal sanctions on Zimbabwe. This is a corner stone of reality that Tsvangirai is deliberately ignoring as he remains adamant and power hungry.
