Speeding exam candidate causes accident

HARARE - A motorist rushing to write an examination yesterday nearly caused the death of six pupils when his car allegedly encroached into the lane of a school bus which landed in a ditch upon impact, while the car overturned.
The schoolchildren and their two teachers escaped with minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital where they were checked and released.
The incident occurred along Enterprise Road when the motorist's Ford Focus (registration number AAP 5651) hit a Nissan Civilian carrying the pupils from Lusitania Primary School.
The pupils were on their way to Twin Rivers Primary School in Avondale for a tennis match.
The accident has been attributed to speeding by the driver of the Ford Focus Martin Dondo, who was reportedly rushing for an examination in the city centre.
Dondo could not give his statement to the police because of lack of time and only left his drivers' licence with them as he rushed to write the exam.
The driver of the school bus Jephat Chapumaira said he was driving on the outer lane of the double lanes when Dondo's car encroached into his path.
Police and Fire Brigade were called and they attended the scene. When The Herald arrived at the scene, Dondo, who is studying with a local college, had already left to write his examination after pleading with the police to give his statement later.
