Prophet Magaya disaster victims named

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has refuted allegations that it fired teargas at the Prophetic Healing Deliverance (PHD) Ministries crusade which saw 11 people losing their lives in a stampede.
With many people still eagerly waiting to be furnished with the accurate information on what exactly led to the stampede during a PHD Ministries crusade at the Mbizo Stadium in Kwekwe, ZRP Spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said the stampede was caused by gas bottle burst and not teargas from the police as alleged.
She said when police details are deployed to religious gatherings, there is no anticipation of violence, so they do not carry any arms or teargas with them.
She said the police have conducted thorough investigations which revealed that a gas bottle owned by Amos Muzeiwa, who was selling cooked food at the crusade venue, leaked and burst.
Senior Assistant Commissioner Charamba said the ZRP is concerned with the loss of life and urged church authorities who intend to host events which attract large crowds to have them at open spaces.
Meanwhile, the names of the people who died at the crusade have been released.
They are:
1. Ian Nkomo, a male adult aged 40, of house number W436, Amaveni, Kwekwe.
2. Tendekai Bafana, a male juvenile aged 9 of number 327/12, Mbizo, Kwekwe.
3. Tamuka Chivasa a male juvenile aged 11 of number 7898/4, Mbizo, Kwekwe.
4. Rachel Zvinei a female juvenile aged 16 of number 951/3, Mbizo, Kwekwe.
5. Albert Ndure a male juvenile aged 13 of number 86 Section 2, Mtapa, Gweru.
6. Winnie Chikanda a female juvenile aged 12 of number 197/5, Mbizo, Kwekwe.
7. Juliet Mawere a female adult aged 55, of number 3067/13, Mbizo, Kwekwe.
8. Bridget Mukarati a female adult age 34 of number 4493/2, Mkoba, Gweru.
9. Cynthia Jane Katsholo a female adult aged 47 of number 3401 Extension 16, Mbizo, Kwekwe.
10. Grace Gwinji of number K10 Toward, Redcliff
11. Shadreck Gumisidzo Kurebwa a male adult aged 59 of number 36, Mutichena Road, Rutendo, Redcliff.
