Rugare Gumbo to expose 'Mugabe' in his life memoirs

FORMER Zanu-PF information secretary Rugare Gumbo says he is working on his life memoirs following his five-year suspension from the party.

Gumbo, who was spectacularly and unexpectedly sacked from Zanu-PF on accusations that he plotted to oust President Robert Mugabe and replace him with Vice-President Joice Mujuru, said the book will detail his life.

"I am definitely working on something, that way I will be detailing my life history from the day I was born to today," he said.

If written, the book may provide a deep insight into the manner Zanu and Zanla fought the liberation war, as Gumbo was one of the members of the famed Dare re Chimurenga or war council.

The former Zanu-PF spokesman is likely to touch on his strained relationship with Mugabe, considering they had run ins in the past that saw Gumbo being detained for years before independence.

"I will touch on my ups and downs in the liberation struggle to my diplomacy in the government," he said.

"I will let you know when this will be published."

Recently, State media republished a 1980 story, indicating there was a testy relationship between Mugabe and Gumbo, in which the suspended Zanu-PF spokesman revealed his disdain for the president.

In the interview, Gumbo says Mugabe used people to prop himself up and then destroys them.

Gumbo ominously warns that he was afraid of what a Mugabe presidency meant for the country, saying people only voted for the veteran leader out of fear.

Very few senior government or Zanu-PF officials have written their memoirs, resulting in a disputed and often distorted history of the country, based on hearsay.
