A Tsholotsho man allegedly strangled and hanged his neighbour's daughter on a tree after a foiled rape attempt in a bid to conceal the offence.
Bongani Moyo, 26, of Mathula Village Line, allegedly committed the gruesome offence on November 16 and tried to make it look like the 14-year-old girl committed suicide.
The child had allegedly turned down his love proposal.
Moyo allegedly wrestled with the girl and eventually strangled her.
Moyo, who appeared before Tsholotsho provincial magistrate Abednico Ndebele facing murder charges, told the court he thought he was going mad due to the guilt he felt after committing the crime.
Prosecuting, Sikhumbuzo Sibanda told the court that on November 16, Moyo met the girl at a field in Mguzana Village and proposed love to her.
"The girl turned down his proposal and Moyo then tried to force himself on her but failed.
"Fearing the girl would report the issue to her parents, he decided to strangle her and tied her to a Mopani tree to make it appear as if she had committed suicide," said Sibanda.
