'Mujuru thought I'd die in September,' says Mugabe

PRESIDENT Robert Mugabe revealed Wednesday that Joice Mujuru's faction believed he would die in September and started plotting a coup after hopes that his biological clock would stop ticking were dashed.

Mugabe disclosed that Vice-President Joice Mujuru was desperate to succeed him and resorted to all manner of unconstitutional and dirty tricks to ascend to the helm of Zanu-PF and Government.

The veteran leader was addressing members of the Zanu-PF central committee in Harare at the ruling party's ongoing elective congress where he effectively ruled out retirement, insisting he would only be removed from office by election defeat.

Mugabe also took a swipe at Zanu-PF secretary for administration Didymus Mutasa, sacked spokesperson Rugare Gumbo, and ousted Mashonaland East provincial chair Ray Kaukonde for also using unorthodox means in their power pursuit.

"Power, power, power; that is what you think if you are obsessed with power," said the president.

"They (Mujuru faction) said they read the Mugabe is going to die in September but the man has refused to die and even now he is still refusing to die, zvave kutoda n'anga."

He was flanked at the top table by national chairman, Simon Khaya Moyo with other members of the presidium, Mujuru and Didymus Mutasa missing.

"Now this is what has happened. The high table has only two people who have kept their principles," said Mugabe.

Also absent was Nicholas Goche, who along with Mujuru and Mutasa, are among top leaders accused of plotting to oust Mugabe at this congress or, failing that, engineering his assassination.

Addressing the Zanu-PF Central Committee on the second day of the ruling party's National Congress in Harare on Wednesday, Mugabe said: "I go to an election and fight in an election, and I am expected to bow to my deputy and say, 'I have won an election, you take over.' That was one expectation. Foolish!

"But when your mind is full of power. . .did I not win or read that this man (President Mugabe) is going to die in September (2013)? But the man refused to die in that September and he still is refusing to die.

"Aaah! Zvaakutoda n'anga izvi. Vanotitsvagira n'anga anaKaukonde (This now needs witch doctors. Kaukonde is now looking for witch doctors). . .Sordid, sordid, sordid things were happening. Imwe n'anga ikati (one witch doctors said), 'Tsvagai ngururwi (look for tadpoles) dzakasiyana mavara adzo, mbiri, imwe yonzi Mugabe, imwe yonzi Mujuru, modziisa mumvura muchirongo mumba (with different colour, two of them, one should be named MUgabe, the other one named Mujuru, put them in a can in the house).'

"Ndozvaiitika izvozvi (thats what was happening). So, ngururwi dzorwisana imomo dzichimhanya. VaMugabe yavo ikarumwa ikafa chance ndeyangu. Chandisasaziva ndechekuti, ko, yangu ikaruma yako ikafa zvoitasei? Zvino ndozvinenge zvatoitika ipapa (the tadpoles will fight inside the can. If MUgabe's tadpole is beaten and dies, that will be your chance. What am now not sure is if my tadpole bites yours and yours die what happens? Thats what has happened now)."

The President continued: "Aaah, Zvimwe kana zvakona izvi, vechurch vangavabatsire. Iye murume iyeyi uyu, takamuona achienda kwaMarange kwava Mutumwa, achipfekedzwa jasi nevapostori. Taenda kwazvo. Tafambidzana nemachurch ose. Hapana church yatinoshora. Tinofambidzana zvakanaka netsika dzekwa Mwari (If all has failed, maybe the church might assist. This man, we saw him we saw him going to Marange to Mutumwa and was being being clothed by mapostori. We went well. We have been to all churches. We do not condemn any church.)

"Taingoda kuvadzidzisa kuti vavake zvikoro (We wanted to teach them to build schools). They built a beautiful secondary school with their own money tikati tozokupai mateacher (we said we will give you teachers). Zvino yakuda kuvhurwa zvikanzi. . .mumwe wangu (VP Mujuru) anzwa kuti yakuda kuvhurwa zvikanzi: 'Aaah, ndini ndinoda kuuya ikoko kuzovhura. Ndoda kuti ndizobatwa maoko ndipihwe simba.' Aaah."
