A WOMAN from Insuza village was stunned when her drunken neighbour, who mistook her for his wife, entered her bedroom hut in the middle of the night, undressed and joined her in bed.

Simangaliso Mhlanga, 41, who resides at Richard Mhlanga's homestead at village 1B, was startled out of a deep sleep by Nkosikhona Moyo, 34, who also lives in village 1B.

She found him in her blankets lying undressed next to her at around 1AM on Tuesday.

Moyo appeared before Bulawayo provincial magistrate Sibongile Msipa facing two counts of public indecency and unlawful entry into premises.

He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 105 hours of community service at Mbembeswana Clinic, Insuza.

"It was not my intention your worship to offend my neighbour. I was drunk and I thought Mhlanga was my wife and I thought I was entering my matrimonial bed," said Moyo.

Prosecuting, Nkathazo Dlodlo told the court that on December 2 at around 1AM, Moyo unlawfully entered Mhlanga's bedroom hut through an unlocked door.

"Moyo removed his clothes, slept on Mhlanga's bed next to her on top of the blankets," said Dlodlo.

Mhlanga woke up and lit some matches.

She was shocked to find Moyo sleeping on her bed completely undressed.

The court heard that Mhlanga tried to chase him away but failed to wake him up.

Mhlanga left the hut and went to tell her father, Richard Mhlanga, who then escorted Moyo to the police station.
