ZANU-PF national chairman Simon Khaya Moyo has reiterated that there should be one centre of power in the ruling party for it to remain strong and united.
Khaya Moyo said party members should give President Mugabe, whom he described as "iconic", unwavering support.
He spoke as Vice President Joice Mujuru, who has failed to attend Zanu-PF's 6th National People's Congress underway in Harare, was accused of creating a parallel government by working with some ministers and provincial chairpersons to force President Robert Mugabe out of power.
Khaya Moyo urged leaders to accept any deployments in the party as their terms of office draw to a close and reminded them of his message first delivered at the party's 2011 conference on the importance of maintaining one centre of power.
"At our 12th National People's Conference held in Bulawayo during December 2011, my welcoming address focused on the evil of factionalism and I said factionalism is a deadly political virus. If it's left to thrive, a political party can limp to its demise. I implored all party members not to let the germs of factionalism to breed and spread. There must be one centre of power," said Khaya Moyo.
"I spoke as such for good reason to emphasise the concept of unity and this has been the driving force during the tenure of my chairmanship of this iconic institution. At our 11th National People's Conference held in Mutare during December 2010, my welcoming address dwelled on the unacceptability of imposition of cadres at all levels of our party structures. I warned all the delegates that such behaviour is malignant hypocrisy, a cancerous wound and it should be stopped."
He said leaders should carry out their duties in an exemplary manner with the main focus being the full implementation of Zim-Asset economic blueprint.
He paid tribute to President Mugabe for his mentorship during his chairmanship in the last five years.
"As all of our terms of office are drawing to an end, let's be grateful and be honoured to have had the opportunity to serve Zanu-PF and Zimbabwe.
"People remain supreme, let's accept whatever further deployment we may be given and carry out those duties with exemplary discipline and precision with deliverable goals of Zim-Asset being prominent in our minds, together we can't fail," he added.
"Let's us give our unwavering support to our iconic President RG Mugabe and the First Family. Let's pray for their long life, to be blessed with more outpouring of wisdom, good leadership and victory against all foes, glory be to God."
Khaya Moyo said this year's Congress was the first since the party's resounding electoral victory on July 31, 2013, "on the back of our successful campaign to empower, indigenise and employ."
He reminded Zimbabweans that Zim-Asset was being implemented in a highly globalised, unfair and resource restrained environment.
Khaya Moyo reiterated his analogy made at the youth and Women's League Congresses in August of Zanu-PF being a three-legged cast iron pot that stands united and gets stronger in the face of pressure. He reminded delegates against engaging in corruption, a warning he also made at the party's 13th Conference in Gweru in 2012.
"I warned that 'corrupteneurs' had replaced entrepreneurs and predicted that they would carry the ugly cross and face the inevitable and as the saying goes, a fool and his money are soon parted," he said.
Khaya Moyo said at last year's conference, he reminded delegates that a revolution does not succeed on the basis of the weakness of its opponents but on the successful implementation of its policies and programmes.
"As we gather here today this statement couldn't be overemphasised as we intensify the implementation of Zim-Asset. Let's not relax on the political front as we see opposition parties in tatters for their confusion can't be translated into our strength," he said.
"Zanu-PF must strengthen itself regardless of the state of the opposition and counter revolutionaries. We're better when we're strong than to measure ourselves against mediocre parties."
