Government is docking $100 off doctors salaries for taking part in an illegal industrial action which paralysed the health sector for two weeks.
Paul Chimedza, deputy minister of Health and Child Care, claimed yesterday the slash was justifiable under public service laws.
Chimedza said as government they pay for services rendered but if people spend the day drinking and smoking there is no need to pay them unless on leave.
At least 300 of the 400 members of the ZHDA took part in the job action demanding a salary review and improved conditions of service.
ZHDA said its members countrywide are constantly summoned, threatened and harassed by station supervisors over their participation in the industrial action.
Peggy Zvavamwe, Harare Central Hospital chief executive officer, was not taking calls.
